According to Bailey's The Destiny of the Nations, there are five great inlets through which spiritual energy enters the planet, and wherever one is found there is a city of spiritual importance. In each a Master with His Ashram organises a major energy centre.
Five inlets
| City | Sphere | Force (DON) | Motto |
|---|---|---|---|
| London | The British Commonwealth | 1st ray, building aspect | I serve |
| New York | The Western Hemisphere | 6th ray, idealism | I light the way |
| Geneva | Europe | 2nd ray, inclusiveness | I seek to fuse, to blend and serve |
| Tokyo | The Far East | 1st ray, lower aspect | Not given |
| Darjeeling | India and most of Asia | 1st ray, Shamballa force | I hide the light (India) |
The Tibetan described the flows through these cities during the Second World War, when he said these centres were being "abnormally and deliberately stimulated". The energies still flow today, so it is useful for groups who direct energy at full moon meditations to know these cities.
Two triangles
The five centres form two triangles:
- 1London · New York · Darjeeling
- 2Tokyo · New York · Geneva
Geneva and Darjeeling are the centres through which pure spiritual energy can be directed most easily, and they form the higher points of their triangles. Their influence is more subjective than that of the other three. New York is the point common to both triangles: the centre of the West and a bridge to the East.
One interpretation: cities and chakras
The Tibetan says these five cities correspond in the planetary body to "the four centres up the spine and the ajna centre", without saying which is which. Phillip Lindsay proposes the following reading: New York as ajna, London as throat, Geneva as heart, Tokyo as solar plexus, and Darjeeling as the alta major centre at the back of the head. These assignments are the author's own research, and he notes that his view changed over the years; they should be read as an invitation to reflect rather than as settled knowledge.
In this reading energy flows from Darjeeling to New York, then to Geneva, London and Tokyo, and returns each time to the head at a higher frequency: a continual cycle of redemption.
East and West
According to Bailey the Occident has a second ray soul and a fourth ray personality; the Orient has a fourth ray soul and a third ray personality. The fourth ray, common to both hemispheres, is the ray that governs humanity: the fourth creative hierarchy, in the fourth round, on the fourth globe, the Earth.
Use in meditation
It is said that the New Group of World Servers has three centres of activity in London, New York and Geneva, while forces are gathering in Darjeeling and Tokyo. Holding these five centres and the flow between them in consciousness while sounding the Great Invocation makes meditation more purposeful. It is a demanding skill, learned with patience.
